This exclusive machine is a special version of the incredible R1, and comes with even higher factory specification – enabling track riders to discover their true potential.

A six axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) offers control over traction, slides, front wheel lift, braking and launches. Its Communication Control Unit with GPS lets you access lap times and other running data on an Android-based tablet. And R1M’s Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) delivers ultimate handling.

With its 200bhp crossplane engine, short wheelbase chassis, 3D control electronics and exclusive carbon bodywork, R1M delivers M1-derived factory-bike technology.

Quick Shift System

A new higher specification Quickshift System (QSS) offers clutchless upshifting and downshifting that helps to maintain chassis stability for faster lap times, and also reduces the physical and mental input required by the rider. Using the Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) function, YZF-R1M riders can also select their preferred QSS mode.

With its central forced air intake and high screen, the R1M's lightweight carbon bodywork has an unmistakable race bike silhouette. Compact new LED headlights are 'hidden' either side of the air intake to emphasize the race DNA, while twin LED position lights give this new superbike a truly unique face.

The race bred instrument panel has been designed with the concept of creating an effective rider-machine interface. All of the instrument function displays have been concentrated into a single 4.2-inch screen that adopts a fully transmissive Thin Film Transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display. For the display mode, there is also a choice between a Street mode with a priority on displaying information needed for riding on public roads, and a Track mode with a priority on information desired for racing or circuit riding.

A 4-2-1 exhaust pipe and mid-ship muffler are adopted to ensure good exhaust efficiency and to contribute to mass centralisation at the same time. To reduce weight, titanium is used in these exhaust pipes and the muffler.

An aluminium fuel tank (17-litre capacity) designed to reduce weight and provide a wider range of riding position freedom has been adopted. The knee pocket area is deeply indented in a design well fitted for active riding.

Communication Control Unit

Communication Control Unit

A Communication Control Unit (CCU) enables checks of the various forms of machine information and simplifies the setting process in order to heighten the instrument panel's function as a rider-machine interface. Comprised of the CCU and a GPS antenna, running data can be recorded via a data logger, and with the GPS function, the system also enables automatic lap time recording on circuit course

An LED headlight and LED position lights are adopted for their advantages of low electricity consumption, light weight and high luminosity. When the ignition is turned on, the high-intensity LED position lights come on almost instantly. The straight-line, sharp illumination gives the R1 a distinctive and original frontal expression even in the dark.

Equipped with a banking angle sensitive rear wheel Slide Control System (SCS) and Traction Control System (TCS) - as well as a Front LIFt control system (LIF) in addition to a Launch Control System (LCS) and Quick Shift System (QSS), the R1M's electronic control technology enables every rider to attain their full potential on the track.

The revised Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS) is the most sophisticated system ever developed by Öhlins for a production motorcycle. Its advanced new software gives a higher degree of braking, acceleration and cornering support with improved front-end feel - and a new interface makes suspension set-up quick and easy.

For optimal intake efficiency a YZR-M1-type central air inlet feeds a large capacity 10.5 litre airbox. Fresh air is force fed into the electronically activated Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) funnels that adjust their length to match engine rpm for optimum power characteristics, to give high levels of useable performance.

ABS and Unified Brake System

ABS and Unified Brake System

Both an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Yamaha's Unified Brake System are adopted. With the Unified Brake System, operating the front brake also generates corresponding brake pressure at the rear brake. The distribution of braking force is based on input from the IMU regarding the machine's attitude and banking angle at the time of brake application.

M1-derived 200PS crossplane engine

M1-derived 200PS crossplane engine

The R1 is powered by a 998cc crossplane 4 cylinder 4-valve engine that develops 200PS - without ram air pressurisation. Derived from our winning YZR-M1 MotoGP bike, its crossplane crankshaft gives an uneven 270° - 180° - 90° - 180° firing sequence for high levels of linear torque.

To achieve optimal performance the engine uses a high compression 01:01 PM cylinder head featuring a pent roof combustion chamber with large diameter intake and exhaust valves. And for instant response with high power and strong linear torque, the R1 is equipped with titanium con rods and forged aluminium pistons.

6-Axis IMU

6-Axis IMU

This model adopts the world's first 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) ever for a production motorcycle. It consists of a gyro sensor (angular velocity sensor) that measures machine pitch, roll and yaw, and a G-sensor (accelerometer) that measures acceleration in the forward-backward, up-down and right-left directions. This technology makes possible the cornering control functions of both a Traction Control System (TCS) and Slide Control System (SCS) (introduced on the 2012 MotoGP machine, first use on a production motorcycle).
